NGC2261 and NGC2264 Nebula in Monoceros - click on images for larger view

(Below) NGC2264 - Christmas Tree Cluster & Nebula - (18)3min, (18)5min, 300D at ISO 1600, 80ED at F7.5, cropped. 2/26/2004.  I was attempting to image the Cone Nebula, however, even after 2.5 hours on photons the cone remained elusive for the 300D Digital Rebel.

  • The right image was restacked using average combine (6 sub-stacks of 3 each for both 3min & 5min exposure sets)

  • 3min and 5min sub-stacks separately combined using adaptive add (2.0).

  • 3min adaptive added stack and 5min adaptive added stack were then combined using adaptive add (2.0) again.

  • 11X11 Gaussian blur to red channel only.

(Below Left) NGC2261 + 2264 - Same image as left with less cropping. Notice light pollution from 1st quarter moon
