This page includes rare migrants (seen only once or twice on my property) and true accidentals (species not expected to found in the area).  Some of these species may be seen more frequently in the general area; I have classified them based on occurrence in my yard.

Eurasion Collared Dove 3/30/08

A first occurence in my yard. I'll have to wait and see if the species becomes a regular; listing as an accidental, for now.

Anna's Hummingbird 12/20/08

First seen November 22, 2008. Is this the same female that spent mid-Dec 2007 to early Feb 2008 in my yard?

Anna's Hummingbird 12/20/08

Anna's Hummingbird 1/1/08

This bird was present from 12/19/07 thru 2/3/08.

Anna's Hummingbird 1/1/08

Anna's Hummingbird 12/30/05

A juvenile male, here for only one day. One of two Anna's to show up in early winter, 2005.

Anna's Hummingbird 11/12/05

Female Anna's; here from 11/6/05 thru about 11/21/05.

Anna's Hummingbird 11/12/05

The spread tail confirmed this as an adult female Anna's. (An immature male would have a slightly different tail pattern.)

Anna's Hummingbird 11/12/05

Adult female.

Eastern Kingbird 5/23/09

Only the second sighting for my neighborhood, and a first for my actual yard (Blanco Co sighting; the first was in nearby Comal Co).

Yellow-throated Vireo 8/26/07

A first for the yard.

Yellow-throated Vireo 8/26/07

A very cooperative Vireo, singing and staying in sight. Several times he actually moved closer to me, almost as though he were checking me out.

Red-breasted Nuthatch 9/18/04

An early date for a Red-breasted Nuthatch sighting, at least in 2004.

Red-breasted Nuthatch 9/18/04

This bird was around for about 3 days, but the species has only been seen in my yard that one time.

Red-breasted Nuthatch 9/18/04

Red-breasted Nuthatches are more common some winters then others, and can be found fairly reliably in some locations--but not in my yard!

Blackburnian Warbler 9/3/07

A female Blackburnian Warbler. Not a great picture, but included here due to the relative rarity of this warbler in the area, especially in the Fall.

Rose-breasted Grosbeak 5/7/06

This weekend was phenomenal for migrants. Weather conditions caused a 'fallout' to occur, and rarities were reported throughout the area, while more common migrants were numerous.

Black-headed Grosbeak 3/30/08

Male, first appeared 3/29/08.

Black-headed Grosbeak 3/30/08

Joined by a Chipping Sparrow on the feeder.

Black-headed Grosbeak 8/31/06

Immature male Black-headed Grosbeak. Here from 8/31/06 through at least 9/3/06. The summer of 2006 was drought-stricken in my area, and many unusual species were found at watering spots.

Lazuli Bunting 4/12/09

Part of a Bunting invasion in April 2009. Several different Lazulis passed by, as well as dozens of Indigos

Lazuli Bunting 4/6/08

An unexpected migrant, possibly a first photo-documentation for Blanco County.

Lazuli Bunting 4/6/08

I've seen Lazuli Bunting on one other occasion on my place, but that day was drizzly and I didn't get a photo.
